Andie Elizabeth

The pink pattern is worked with slip stitches, so only one color is used in a row. If you can slip a stitch from the left needle to the right without knitting it, you can work the design on this sweater. Although the sizing is roomy enough for active kids, set-in sleeves and shaping at the back neck give a refined look.

Simple shaping and a chart that is easy to read and to work make this an easy knit.

Knit in DK weight cotton for easy care and multi-season wear; the yarn is Butterfly Super 10 or Tahki Cotton Classic.

Sized to fit 18 months, 2, 4, 6 years. Shown in size 2 on Andie, age 2 1/2.

Monster

This happy little monster is knit in machine-washable DK weight cotton. The intarsia panel on the front takes a bit of effort, but easy stripes and texture make the rest of the knitting go quickly. Skill level: intermediate.

Pattern includes photos of yarn swatches, front and back of sweater, schematics and large color charts.

A word of warning — there are eight colors and most of the colors use only a fraction of a skein. It will not be economical to buy a skein of each color. The blue, gold and darker turquoise require the most yardage. For the others, if you don’t have suitable colors in your stash of yarns, see if you can beg, borrow or trade to obtain a few yards.

Sized to fit 12 months, 18 months, 2 years, 3 years. Shown in size 2 years on Peter, age 18 months.
